Four tips to prepare for a couple photoshoot

Updated: May 17, 2022

The secret is out. My favorite type of session is definitely couple sessions! They are so fun and getting to capture how much love they have for each other, it’s incredible and such an honor. However, getting some of these moments can seem intimidating or even awkward. I have a few tips for you on how you can prepare and have fun during your couple session!

1. Find a photographer that suits you

The best way to do this is to ask people you know! Talking to people you know about their experience with their photographer, can help you gain more knowledge than just looking at their website. Once you do this check out their work. This is so important! You want to hire someone who matches the style and the type of posing you want. At the end of the day, no photographer wants their images edited over by a client. Also, as the client, you do not want to feel like you have to!

2. Talk to your photographer

Another thing is getting to talk to your photographer. This is a big one. Tell them about you and your significant other. Even a silly story about you two can help your photographer understand your relationship better! Whether you are goofy or more romantic, talking to your photographer can give insight on the best way to direct you and make you feel confident!

3. Outfits

This can be really hard to do because you do not want to be matchy matchy but you don’t want to clash. So, my advice would be, keep it simple. Pick three colors mostly neutral and work off of that. I said it in my family photo tip blog, check out examples! When you pick out your location with your photographer, it is so much easier to then decide your attire.

4. Have fun

Your photographer might have silly prompts or great romantic poses for you. I’ve said it a million times already but couple photos are so fun, so enjoy!
